“The Latest Google Update Tanked My Rankings and Traffic!”
The SEO-sphere is in full freak out mode, especially in the “black hat SEO” and affiliate circles. As Google states in its webmaster guidelines,
“pages that drop after a core update don’t have anything wrong to fix. This said, we understand those who do less well after a core update change may still feel they need to do something”
Google goes on to suggest that webmasters focus on providing quality content.
While this is anecdotal, this certainly coincides with our experiences here at Your Marketing People. For example, we’ve seen boosts on several client sites, especially those where we’ve been focusing heavily on content creation based on market research as well as NLP and LSI software.
By contrast, here is what happened to an old lead generation website that is no longer focusing their SEO on content creation and SEO best practices. Not only did the homepage fall off of the first page, it’s pretty clear that the “winners” were awarded for their content and UX.
“How Do I Recover my Lost Rankings?”
Chris Casarez, our SEO Manager, recommends, “I would starting with a thorough analysis of where your traffic dropped and which keywords this correlates with. Revamp your content and share it on social media. Remember, Google’s business model depends on returning the most relevant results first, so make sure your ranking pages fit that role.”
