What is Crowdfunding? 

Crowdfunding is a way of raising funds through the collective effort of individual investors, customers, family, or friends. It’s an approach that, usually via crowdfunding platforms and social media, taps into the collective efforts of a large pool of individuals and leverages their networks for greater exposure and reach.

How Does Crowdfunding Work?

Crowdfunding works through individuals or organizations who invest in or donate to ideas, projects, companies, or causes in return for a potential reward or profit.

Kickstarter – Kickstarter is a global crowdfunding platform for aspiring entrepreneurs and small-scale businesses.

Indiegogo – Indiegogo is one of the first crowdfunding websites out there. It allows people to solicit funds for an idea, charity, or start-up business.

iFundWomen – It’s a crowdfunding platform for women entrepreneurs. iFundWomen gives its users access to capital through crowdfunding and grants, business coaching, as well as a network of women business owners.

GoFundMe – GoFundMe is a for-profit crowdfunding platform that helps users to raise money for events ranging from life events (like graduations and celebrations) to tough circumstances (such as illnesses and accidents). 

Crowdrise – Crowdrise is GoFundMe’s for-profit crowdfunding platform that specializes in raising charitable donations.

NextSeed – NextSeed is an online fundraising platform where any US-based businesses can raise financing from any investors including non-accredited ones.

SyndicateRoom – SyndicateRoom connects investors with organizations and it is a great platform for multi-sector private investments.

Republic – Republic is an investment platform where everyone can invest as little as $10 in US-based cutting-edge startups.

SeedInvest – SeedInvest is an equity crowdfunding platform that connects US-based startups with investors online.

MightyCause – MightyCause a cloud-based fundraising solution designed for nonprofit organizations, community groups and schools of all sizes. 

Ulule – Ulule is a crowdfunding platform that connects creators, entrepreneurs and makers all over the world. According to their website, it’s the only international crowdfunding platform where the majority of projects get funded.

FundRazr – FundRazr is a free crowdfunding and online fundraising platform designed for any size nonprofits and charities. 

Patreon – Patreon is a membership platform that makes it possible for artists and creators to get paid by their fans/supporters.

Chuffed – Chuffed is a crowdfunding platform for socially-conscious projects.

ArtistShare – ArtistShare is the first crowdfunding website on the internet. It’s a platform where creative artists can fund their projects by allowing the general public to directly finance, watch the creative process, and in most cases gain access to extra material from an artist.

Fundable – Fundable is a fee-based crowdfunding platform that offers both rewards-based and equity-based campaigns for small businesses.

GoGetFunding – GoGetFunding is a personal crowdfunding website where users can raise money online for personal causes and loved ones.

InKind – InKind is a crowdfunding platform geared specifically toward restaurants.

Seed&Spark – Seed&Spark is a crowdfunding platform for movie makers around the world.

Crowdfunder – Crowdfunder is an equity crowdfunding platform. Entrepreneurs can use it to sell equity and debt in their company, to raise money, and attract angels and VCs.
