Have you joined TikTok? Congratulations. You just unlocked a whole world of video editing capabilities for your brand — and access to one billion monthly users.
So, what are all the things you can do with a TikTok video? Let’s explore how to edit TikTok videos.
Sections
1. Add text and captions
You can add text to your TikTok video by tapping on the Text icon on the right. From this screen, you can edit the color, font, and alignment of your on-screen text. If you want TikTok to do this work for you, no problem. Tap the Captions icon instead, and TikTok will auto-generate captions for you, which you can review and edit before posting your video.
2. Add voiceover or text-to-speech
Filming time-lapses, tutorials, or reaction videos? Add narration while editing your TikTok video by tapping the Voiceover icon. You can even change up the sound of your voice with a voice effect. If you’ve ever wanted to sound like Alvin and the Chipmunks, for example, this is your moment! If you’d prefer to use the default TikTok narration voice, tap on your text captions and select Text-to-speech.
3. Add stickers
If you’ve ever used stickers in Instagram Stories, TikTok stickers will feel familiar to you. You can use polls and questions to interact with your fans, add hashtags, or mention other users. You can also use animated stickers to simply add a bit of color and movement to your videos. Just click the Stickers icon on the right.
4. Add filters
Filters can take a TikTok from looking like a regular ol’ video filmed on a smartphone to something that looks professionally shot. You can choose from a range of filters, including pre-sets designed for different subject matters, such as food. You can also adjust the brightness, color tone, and exposure of your video. Finally, you can pretty things up with filters that affect different aspects of your face.
5. Add effects
When it comes to effects, you could say Snapchat walked so TikTok could run. TikTok’s library of effects is massive, and it just keeps getting bigger. From green screens to interactive effects, you’ll never run short on options.
Pro Tip: There is a different set of effects that you can use when recording your TikTok vs. editing it, so you may want to review them beforehand to make sure you get to use the right ones.
6. Add music and sounds
Whether it’s a trending song or a sound clip, a key to TikTok success is choosing the right audio. On the TikTok editing screen, tap on Add a Sound at the top. Here you can search to select songs from Spotify, or hop on a trend and reuse a sound from a video that’s already gone viral.
7. Trim video clips
Do you want to edit the start and end of your TikTok video? No problem. Click the Adjust Clips icon on the right. This will take you to a new screen that shows your video at the top, along with a filmstrip at the bottom with all the frames from your video. Drag the red edges on the left or right to trim the beginning or end of your video. Click Save when you’re done.
8. Change the recording speed
To change the recording speed while filming your TikTok, click the white Speed icon on the right. You can adjust the speed of your video by either slowing it down (0.5x, 0.3x), or speeding it up (2x, 3x). To change the recording speed after you’ve already filmed your TikTok, tap on Effects from the editing screen. Then choose Time, and Slow-mo.
Can you edit a TikTok video once it’s been published?
No, once a TikTok video has been posted, you cannot edit the video. You can only edit the description.
