Amazon’s Prime Day has been a success ever since its launch back in 2015, with sales steadily increasing year over year. This year’s summer Prime Day reached a jaw-droppping $12.09 billion in sales.

It was only a matter of time before Amazon realized that Prime Day deserved a sequel, and in 2022, we’re seeing its debut with October Prime Day on October 11 and 12, 2022.

Prime Day’s timing — roughly six weeks before the Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend — couldn’t be more perfect. It offers brands a test run of their BFCM deals, and a way to start the holiday season early.

Read on as we share five tips for making the most of Prime Day this year.

1. Carefully choose your products

The Amazon algorithm favors best-sellers, so this is not the time to push your slower sellers. Instead, focus on popular products that:

  • Have high star ratings (4 stars or above)
  • Have at least 20 reviews
  • Are in stock, with plenty of inventory

Then, optimize the listings for those products, by including keywords in your product description and title and putting your best photography forward.

Pro Tip: You can even create a Prime Day version of your store, that is only live during the sales event. Create Prime Day specific banners and use the Featured Deals Widget to promote your deals and promotions.

2. Advertise your Prime Day deals

With two-thirds of shoppers planning to shop on Amazon Prime Day, everyone will be searching for Prime Day. Run dedicated ad campaigns on social media and Google to drive shoppers towards your deals.

Use Amazon advertising to stand out in the Amazon search results (If you’re already advertising on Amazon, ratchet up your daily budget to account for increased competition during the sale).

Finally, score a green coupon badge by your listings by creating a coupon for your best-sellers. Amazon recommends setting the discount to 5% or more.

3. Test out your BFCM deals

With October Prime Day running so close to BFCM, this is the perfect time to test out your BFCM deals. Consider Prime Day your beta test for the holiday season, answering questions like:

  • Which products are your customers most excited for?
  • What types of discounts are they responding to?
  • How aggressive are your competitors going to be with sales this year?

After Prime Day is over, sit down to pore over what worked and what didn’t. Then use that to pivot and optimize your Black Friday/Cyber Monday plans accordingly.

4. Run your own sale

When Prime Day is in the air, people are in a shopping state of mind. Leverage the buzz from Prime Day and host a sale on your own ecommerce site.

Offer competitive promotions and steep discounts on your products. Encourage shoppers to fill their carts with double (or triple) the loyalty points and bundle deals.

Otherwise, everyone will purchase from your Amazon listings instead, cutting into your profits.

5. Lean on your influencers

Work with your influencers to spread the word about your Prime Day deals. Consumers trust the influencers they follow and actively seek out their opinion, so their promotion of your brand can be particularly persuasive — perhaps even more so than the ads you run yourself.

Plus, influencers want to be known for scoring and sharing exclusive information.

By helping their fans scout out the best deals on Prime Day, your brand can break through the noise and the influencer can increase their own clout.
