If you’re like most marketers, content marketing plays a big role in your overall strategy. But when you’re constantly pushing out content, it’s easy to fall into a rut and feel uninspired.

Don’t worry.

Today, we’re here to inspire you with this list of popular content types. By the time you finish reading, you’ll be excited and ready to dive back into content brainstorming.

1. Blogs

Blogs are the foundation of many a marketing strategy. Just under half (48%) of companies use blogging. Blog articles can be short or long, educational or opinion-based, or a mix of content types.

2. Listicles

Listicles are a particular type of blog article where you list a number of things related to a topic. They’re easy to scan and digest, which is what makes them so popular. In fact, this blog is a listicle!

3. Interviews

Interviews with subject matter experts, influencers, or industry celebrities are a great way to grab your audience’s attention. Plus, you can repurpose the content in multiple ways — a full-length article, video snippets for social media, and more.

4. How-to content

How-to content shows your audience how to do something. How-to content can be a long-form guide, a quick video tutorial, or a step-by-step recipe.

5. Infographics

Infographics are a type of graphic (usually larger in size) that presents information. Content marketers love infographics because they’re easily shareable, making them useful for social media and link building. Here’s an example of a Pinterest SEO infographic we created here at Your Marketing People.

6. Resource pages

On a resource page, you compile a list of resources, statistics, or facts related to a particular topic. Similar to infographics, resource pages are irresistible linkbait.

7. Ebooks

Ebooks often share how to do something. You’ll often find them behind a gated form, as they’re heavily used in lead generation.

8. Whitepapers

Whitepapers are also used in B2B lead generation. You can publish industry research, survey results, and more.

9. Templates

Downloadable templates are another effective lead magnet. You’re giving your readers something of value that they can download and start using for free.

10. Checklists

Checklists are similar to templates in that they help your audience do something. Consider how you can incorporate this content type into your strategy this year.

11. Case studies

Case studies showcase (see what we did there?) your brand in a positive light, illustrating to readers how you helped a particular client or customer solve an issue successfully.

12. Reviews and testimonials

User-generated content goes a long way toward convincing people to try your brand. Gather customer reviews and testimonials for your brand and feature them throughout your website and marketing materials.

13. Videos

Video offers the highest ROI of any media format, according to HubSpot. If you want to succeed with content in 2023, make sure your content strategy includes lots of video.

14. Live videos

Live videos — via TikTok Live, Instagram Live, Facebook Live, and others — allow your brand to show a less polished, more relatable side to your fans and followers.

15. Stories

Facebook and Instagram Stories can also be a bit less polished. Many brands use Stories to connect with their followers, through polls, sliders, and other interactive features.

16. Social media posts

Social media posts are an essential content type today, given that the average person spends well over two hours daily on social media. Follow our tips for optimizing social media campaigns in 2023.

17. Email campaigns

When it comes to engaging customers and boosting sales, email marketing is powerful. Round out your 2023 email strategy with our guide to email drip campaigns.

18. Quizzes

Who doesn’t love a quiz? This content type may be the most popular one on this list, because everyone loves finding out just a little bit more about themselves. Develop quizzes that help your audience find the right products for them or discover something about themselves.

19. Podcasts

Podcasts become more popular every year. Why not start one for your brand? You can cover industry topics or connect with notable people in your industry.

20. Webinars

Webinars often help viewers learn how to do something. Depending on the nature of your podcast, you can film your episodes and present them in webinar form as well. Read these tips for webinar and podcast promotion.

Dive in to content

As you can see, there’s a big world of content types out there. Now it’s just up to you to use them.
