Fun Zoom Games for Remote Teams

How are your weekly virtual team meetings performing?

If they’re starting to feel like a drag, and you’re racking your brain trying to figure out why everyone has their cameras off, we’re here to help. The solution could be surprisingly simple: a fun Zoom game.

Before you roll your eyes, hear us out.

Without the office kitchen or water cooler, it’s tougher for remote teams to foster relationships. But just because it’s tougher doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

Injecting a little fun into your weekly meetings can break the ice, wake attendees up, and help people get to know each other. The key is to keep these games short and simple. Otherwise, they might start to feel like a drag, too!

For eight games that fit the bill, read on. As a fully remote digital marketing agency, we’ve had to get creative to find Zoom games we actually look forward to playing. Here are some of our favorites, along with easy instructions to get you started.

1. Desk Scavenger Hunt

This game gets people out of their chairs and sparks some lighthearted conversation.

How to play: Give your team 30 seconds to find something on their desk or in their home office that matches a specific prompt. Think:

  • The funniest hat you own
  • Your favorite thing at your desk
  • The most ridiculous mug you own
  • The oldest item in your office

Then, every attendee goes around and shows off their item. We promise you’ll get lots of giggles and smiles — just watch our team playing this game!

Pro tip: Encourage attendees to share a little backstory behind their item.

2. Virtual Trivia

A little friendly competition is the best way to wake up a sleepy team on a Monday morning.

How to play: Dedicate the first 5 minutes of your meeting to a quick round of trivia. You can use a platform that integrates with Zoom or simply share your screen with a slideshow of questions.

Pro tip: Make sure you choose a theme that’s fun. Think more pop culture, less corporate culture.

3. Virtual Pictionary

This Zoom game requires zero prep, and the hilarious, poorly drawn masterpieces guarantee a few laughs.

How to play: Send a free link to Skribbl.io (or another platform of your choice) in the Zoom chat. The platform handles the word generation and scoring. Players take turns drawing a word using their mouse while everyone else types their guesses into the chatbox.

4. Two Truths and a Lie

This classic icebreaker is a fantastic way for remote workers to learn interesting, quirky facts about each other. It’s a great game to use when you’re kicking off a project with different teams or introducing a new hire.

How to play: Ask one team member to share three statements about themselves: two true facts and one complete fabrication. The rest of the team uses the Zoom polling feature or the chat box to guess which statement is the lie.

5. “Whose Workspace is This?”

If you’re sick of staring at the same blurred Zoom background, play this game for a fun personal glimpse into your colleagues’ daily lives.

How to play: Have everyone anonymously submit a photo of their home office setup. During the call, share your screen and have the team guess which workspace belongs to which employee.

Pro tip: Do not request photos at the start of the call. Give your team at least one day’s lead time before playing this Zoom game. You want this experience to feel fun, not panic-inducing, so give people a chance to tidy up their home office or switch locations if they need to.

6. Zoom Bingo

If you’ve got a long Zoom call ahead of you, this is the game for you. It helps people stay actively engaged and listening, even during information-heavy presentations.

How to play: Create a Bingo card filled with common remote meeting occurrences, like unexpected pet sightings or someone saying “I think you’re on mute.” Email the cards before a long all-hands meeting. Here’s an example from My Free Bingo Cards

7. The Five-Second Rule

This Zoom game is fast-paced, high-energy, and often leads to hilarious, panic-induced answers. What more could you want?

How to play: Put a team member in the hot seat and give them five seconds to name three things within a specific category. These could be related to your meeting topic — “Name three Google Ads metrics” — or something completely random, like “Name three world capitals.” Stick to general knowledge topics to level the playing field and keep things fun.

Pro tip: Up the ante by splitting attendees into two teams, Family Feud style. Whichever team wins gets a prize.

8. Guess the Childhood Photo

We saved the most heartwarming Zoom game for last. This game is particularly fun once your team has already worked together for some time.

How to play: Ask team members to send a baby or childhood photo to the meeting organizer prior to the call. Share the photos one by one on the screen and let the team guess who the adorable kid grew up to be.

Stay in the (fun) zone

If your head is spinning with all these game options, don’t worry! You do not have to memorize complicated rules or play a game every day. In fact, we wouldn’t recommend it! Start small by introducing one quick activity into your weekly wrap-up.
