Anyone and everyone who uses social media is on the same, never-ending quest to get more followers. Fortunately, getting more followers on TikTok doesn’t have to feel like hunting down some secret treasure. Read on for seven proven tips for getting more followers on TikTok.

1. Research your audience

Hopefully you already have some idea of what your audience is into, based on what works (and what doesn’t) on your other social platforms. Even so, TikTok is a different beast. So, why not ask your audience what they’d like to see from you on Tiktok? Set up a poll on Facebook or your Instagram Stories to find out.

2. Tell your audience you’re on TikTok

We know it seems obvious, but this is a surprisingly easy step to forget. Make sure to update your marketing materials so that your most loyal customers and fans know they can find you on TikTok. Download TikTok and other social media icons and update your:

  • Email footer
  • Website footer
  • Marketing brochures
  • Social media profiles
  • Product packaging

Pro Tip: Announce on your social platforms when your TikTok is up and encourage your fans to come follow you. You can also repost your TikToks as Instagram Reels. Here’s a fun example from Dallas Zoo:

3. Use hashtags

Hashtags are just as powerful on TikTok as they are on every other social platform — maybe even more so. Using relevant hashtags can help you get more views on TikTok. It’s a good idea to include #FYP or #ForYouPage to increase your chances of getting featured on the main TikTok feed. Do some hashtag research before you post each video to boost your chances of success.

4. Lean into challenges

Whether it’s learning a dance or playing a prank, Challenges are the thing on TikTok. Pay attention to what’s going viral on TikTok and consider if a challenge is a good fit for your brand. You can even create your own branded hashtag challenge to drive awareness of your brand and get more TikTok followers. For example, Chipotle’s Lid Flip Challenge racked up over 330 million views.

Pro Tip: Help your challenge get more views, faster, by inviting TikTok influencers to do the challenge.

5. Stitch videos

On TikTok, “stitching” refers to clipping part of another user’s video and using it in your own TikTok. It’s a great way to join in on a popular conversation. You can join trending Stitch videos that ask people to respond to a question, like this one:

As a brand, you can also create your own TikTok and ask people to share the most surprising way they use your product, for example, or places around the world where they’ve worn your apparel. Just make it fun! And don’t forget to include the hashtag #stitchthis.

6. Hop on trends

Some of the best TikTok content comes from people jumping on the trend bandwagon. If a song or audio effect is going viral, consider it your invitation to join the trend with your own TikTok — so long as it’s brand-friendly, of course.

When Taylor Swift’s song “Enchanted” started going viral, language learning app Duolingo hopped on the trend, and earned 5.6 million TikTok views in the process:

7. Use TikTok ads

Looking to get more views on TikTok, quickly? Invest in TikTok ads. TikTok offers several different ad formats, including:

  • TopView Ads
  • In-Feed Ads
  • Branded hashtags
  • Brand Takeovers
  • Branded Effects

Whether you create a special AR filter or opt for a more traditional ad on the main feed, TikTok ads can help you get more followers fast. You can also promote one of your more popular organic TikToks to get even more views.
